How far will a parent go to protect their child?
This is the central question in William Landay’s gripping novel, “Defending Jacob.”
Andy Barber lives a quiet and accomplished life as an Assistant District Attorney in a Massachusetts country with his wife Laurie and son Jacob. But when a shocking crime descends upon their town, Andy is blindsided by what happens next: his own son is the prime suspect in the killing of a teenage boy. To make matters worse, the boy is known to be a bully to Jacob which leads everyone to believe this was an act of retribution.
The story unfolds with the present day trial as well as frequent flashbacks on what happened six months prior. Putting the pieces together as to what actually happened creates real suspense right up until the bone-chilling conclusion.
The author worked for a time as a lawyer and his insight to the legal system is evident from the very first page. The legal jargon can be overwhelming at times but never confusing.
Highly recommended, you will not be able to put it down.
